Matthew Denney first worked with Drummond Read in the early 1990's helping compile reports for the insurance industry and private clients. Since then he has pursued a successful career in academia and the auction rooms. He was course leader and a senior lecturer on the Fine Arts Valuation degree programme at what is now Southampton Solent University. With a PhD in 'Arts and Crafts furniture and vernacular furniture' and supervising a number of PhD students and sitting on exam boards for others, Matthew is well respected in academic circles. Alongside spells in academia, Matthew has worked as a senior valuer for auctioneers in the South West of England for many years gaining a wealth of knowledge across all fields of the fine and decorative arts. Amongst his current activities he now catalogues coins, medals and militaria for auction and is appointed auctioneer at a well established firm of South West Classic and Vintage car specialist.
An accredited lecturer with the Arts Society (formerly the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies) Matthew travels the country giving lectures on a variety of aspects of the fine and decorative arts.
