Odette Moon is a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors as a Chartered Arts & Antiques Surveyor, she joined the company in 2000. She has over 30 years of experience gained by working previously for 7 years as an antiques specialist within a leading International company of Loss Adjusters, part of the time more specifically as a specialist investigative surveyor on high net worth claims. Prior to this she held key positions in specialist department’s of auction houses, working as an auctioneer and valuer. Her specialist knowledge of furniture was built on her early years in the furniture department at Harrods. She has also served on the Arts and Antiques Faculty Board of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors for over 10 years.
Since Odette joined Drummond Read in 2000, she has worked on a variety of high profile cases involving complex legal and insurance issues relating to items lost, damaged or stolen. She, through Drummond Read lead the prestigious contract for the United Nations Compensation Board in relation to substantial losses suffered by wealthy individuals of the Kuwait Royal family as a result of the First Gulf War.
Other cases have included working on behalf of International companies such as EMI, Whitbread, Pickfords, Building Societies, and Banks involving civil litigation matters arising from various types of loss. Reports for criminal cases have been prepared on instructions from government bodies such as the Crown Prosecution Service, Customs and Excise and the Police. She has also worked for numerous private clients providing valuations for both insurance and liability claims.
Colin Read is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and established Drummond Read Associates in 1992. Prior to this he had gained experience within an auction house, including Sotheby’s, working as a chattels valuer and auctioneer.
He formed Drummond Read Associates whilst being employed as a senior lecturer on the BA Fine Arts degree at Southampton Solent University. Colin identified the need in the market place for a valuation company that could provide reports and valuations at a calibre required by the legal profession and those organisations requiring an informed valuation and report. He and his team provided specialist reports to insurance companies, loss adjusters, the police, the legal profession, international government agencies and Customs & Excise. He expanded the company to include insurance valuations on behalf of private clients and to provide valuations and risk assessments to insurance companies.
Over the years Colin has acted as an expert witness in many high profile Crown and County Court cases, often on behalf of the Crown but also for commercial litigation.
From 1985 -2002 Colin’s specialist areas as a Senior lecturer included ‘Art Theft & the Insurance Industry’ and ‘Valuation’ and ‘Professional Practice’. As the senior lecturer in this area he is able to provide assistance on aspects of professional practice, valuation procedure and an understanding of the market to external bodies.
He has had numerous publications relating to the identification of fraudulent claims and organised a variety of professional conferences.
