Nicholas Couts

Senior Valuer Scotland & Northern England

Nicholas has worked within the International art and antiques market for the last 30 years, initially within the BADA recognised family antiques business based in Scotland.

With a strong general valuation background having had experience working at Sotheby's, Christies and in recent years online valuation companies Nicholas is well placed to undertake valuations both for probate purposes and assist with more complex litigious valuations working alongside Odette. His four years at directorship level at the Qatar museums provided experience in detailed attention to cataloguing, documentation, storage and logistics management.

He has had a wealth of experience with the restoration of art and antiques, including the National Trust for Scotland art collection including works at Culzean Castle, Inveraray Castle and items forming part of the Royal Collection at Holyrood House. This experience has proved particularly helpful in assessing quantum and depreciation allowances in fine art claims following fire, flood and malicious damage.

Nicholas underpins the business with strong technical and software skills, specifically in the realms of photography, AutoCAD, excel and bespoke procurement systems. His input proves particularly invaluable when detailed spreadsheets form part of the presentation when large losses have occurred.

Born and educated in Scotland, Nicholas is based in Edinburgh and covers Scotland and Northern England.
